NFHS Coaches Education

The NCADA is pleased to support the NFHS Coaching Education and Certification Program. The program is composed of courses, each addressing a specific topic in coaching education. Below are links to many topics associated with the NFHS Coaching Education Program.

WHY COACH?

Being called “coach” is much more than a title, it is an opportunity and responsibility that can influence a young person for life.  Coaches often build bonds with student athletes far beyond the X’s and O’s of a particular sport.  Being a role model and mentor, helping shape positive life values and choices are all involved with an integral part of education-based athletics…helping mold young people to become productive citizens.  The positive educational outcomes that should be a natural by-product of participation in interscholastic athletics is indeed the ideal for which all coaches should strive.

NCHSAA COACHING REQUIREMENTS

All non-faculty and newly hired coaches must complete the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” course prior to the first date of competition in the sport they are coaching.  Failure to complete this requirement is a $500 fine and an additional $500 fine if they coach in a game without having NFHS certification.

All coaches must complete the NFHS “Concussion in Sports” course prior to the first date of practice in the sport they are coaching.  Failure to complete this requirement is a $500 fine and an additional $500 if they participate in a practice without having NFHS certification.

As of August 1, 2015 all coaches in North Carolina must complete the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” with the subsequent sanctions as listed.

We encourage all coaches to become Level One, Level Two, or Level Three certified (formerly AIC and CIC) as a continuing commitment to professional development.
